Showing Love and Care for Your Dentures

Dentures give you back a good set of teeth after you lose all or most of your natural ones. Even so, dentures require a lot of care. To ensure you give them the best of care, try these suggestions.

First of all, remember that dentures are not entirely sturdy. Dropping them can break them in a heartbeat. This will mean you need to be really careful when you take them out, especially when cleaning them.

To keep them safe while you clean them, you can set a towel on the counter for padding should you drop your dentures. It is probably best to fold the towel once or twice to ensure padding is sufficient. A sink full of water can provide enough shock absorption too.

Be sure to get the right toothbrushes, toothpastes, and other cleaning materials you need. Use soft-bristled toothbrushes, because hard-bristled ones can ruin dentures. Toothpastes and cleaning materials that are overly abrasive can also ruin dentures.

Bleach or items with bleach can really do a number on your dentures. It can weaken the dentures and cause color changes. If your dentures have metal in them, keep them away from chlorine, because this periodic element can cause corroding and tarnishes on certain metals.

Lastly, never subject your dentures to hot water. This can warp your dentures and render them useless to you.

If you keep all these things in mind, you can make your dentures last for quite a while.
